A hybrid possibility for preventing flooding in Kiellinie

Raumstrategien M.A.

In Kiel, a 3.5km walkway ‘Kiellinie’ is a popular spot for recreation and access to water, but also very vulnerable to flooding and extreme weather events. The proposal is to create rainwater / flooding events management while bringing more value to the city.

The natural water circuit is redressed in Kielinie by this simple process. The concrete manages the rainwater /flood from the skatepark. The water from there is led through holes in the concrete where the water is transported to integrated pipes. Sea water with a high content of salt is transferred directly to the sewers. Or store until it can be released back to the sea again.

The reservoir consists of supporting structure, membrane and integrated pipes. It can manage the water in connection to storage, delay, diversion and percolation.
